100th Post: Birthdays!!!

My blog is soon to turn 1 year old! Awwwwww! Ok enough of that. If you are daring enough to delve into my first posts (which I rarely am!) you will note the first post on this blog was posted on July 15, 2010. Yes I know, it's a while until July 15 2011, but my blog was around for a little while before then so I can't give you the exact birthday. Blogger tells me that I have been a member since June 2010, so it's sometime between now and then. Anyway, the reason I wanted to post this now was because this will also be my 100th post! And if I had waited to post this until July 15, you wouldn't have got to read any more of my babbling before then!!

100 posts. Very scary! I always knew I had a lot to say, but I hardly knew I could actually get around to writing it all! Granted, some of the posts were short/cartoons rather than long verbose ramblings, though it probably averages out in the end. So this is a double celebration of sorts! And the subject of birthdays is particularly relevant because my birthday is at the end of July. Again, that's a while away, but it has had a peculiar effect on my life being at this time of year. People don't give much credence to your star sign, because it's all very wishy washy. The actual effect of your birthday can be quite different.

My birthday has always been in the middle of winter. As long as I remain in the Southern Hemisphere, it always will be (touch wood!). This main seem an incidental fact, but it can be relevant. For example, people giving me a birthday present are more likely to give me a winter-themed present, like a jumper or, heaven forbid, socks. Also, when I was growing up the new Harry Potter novels were often released around this time of year, and I often got them as a birthday present. Because of this, they were just that little bit more important to me and gave me an extra connection to it. Likewise, birthday celebrations of mine have always been in winter so I'm hardly likely to have a BBQ or a beach party etc.

I had the great fortune of being born two days before my mother's birthday. This often meant that celebrations of our two birthdays were often merged together for 'economical' purposes. So we normally only got the one cake. So in 20 years, we've missed out on a bout 20 cakes. My brother had the misfortune of being born on Christmas day, which when you think about it, has the potential to completely override your own birthday. Luckily for him, we always celebrated his a little earlier, but it was still tricky having to find him two sets of presents at the same time. So you see how, based on my experiences alone, birthdays can have a great impact on your life and therefore personality.

My birthday has also affected the 'birthdays' of many of my best 'friends'- no not people, but things I own. For instance, I got my iPod for my birthday in 2006, so it will turn 5 when my birthday comes along this year- yes I know, it's pretty old! My computer was my birthday present in 2007, though I got it a little earlier, so it will be 4 before I turn 20! So there are quite a lot of birthdays coming up at this time of year! Quite a fitting subject for my 100th post I think!

And whenever it is during the year, I wish you all a happy birthday now! Joyeux anniversaire! Felix dies natalis! Buon compleanno! ¡Feliz cumpleaƱos!
