This poem might be a little hard to read because
This poem has been written with a peculiar effect
In mind. If you read this poem without this effect
In mind it could be a frustrating exercise indeed
Since it is designed to trick your senses- indeed
Since you do not even know what it is
Because I have not told you what it is
You may find this a little strange- it is!
You may not know but the point of all this
Is to introduce you all to a phenomenon which
Is to most people a complete stranger- which
Is fair enough since its name is very long and
Is not one which you would use in general
Conversation. But maybe after today you might have a
Conversation where it will be fun to slip in the word
Homeoteleuton. We owe it to the Greeks for the word
Homeoteleuton. If you're unsure how to say the word
Say Hom like it rhymes with the name Tom,
Say meo like that delicious but fattening mayo,
Say teleu like I want to 'tell you' something and
Say ton like you would say tonne correctly.
So why am I telling you all about this?
So that you know that when you have two lines
Which start with the same word or words, and
Which you can often mix up- this is something
Which is by no means uncommon and in fact
There have been problems with transcribing
Texts many times, and in the Bible parts of
Texts have been unintentionally omitted
Because of this very unique effect. So now
Because I have told you this, you will now
Be able to wow others with your knowledge!
sadly i will not be wowing others with my knowledge as
ReplyDeletesadly you are the only person to whom i would speak about this
